Practice your defense more than your offense. Victory requires the ability to play defense. Offense may be splashier, but lacking a solid defense, any team is sure to lose.

When you practice, you need to be able to run toward the basket at full speed, then shoot while jumping in the air. Practice your bounce pass. Bounce passes should not go above or below the receiving players waist. Remember you should bounce the ball approximately three-quarters of the distance between yourself and the receiving player. But, a series of other considerations can require you to make adjustments.
Do not practice by playing against the zone defense. While a good chunk of the game will most likely be played in zone, your opponent might flip the switch to man-to-man coverage just to change things up and surprise you. You might lose your control of the court if the other team use this technique, unless you are ready for this possibility.
Have other players give you information about what they think are your strengths and weaknesses. What do you need to focus in on and practice more? Use deception by looking elsewhere when you make passes. You are able to confuse opponents with this technique. If you do it right, this draws your opponents’ focus the wrong way. This can be a great play if it is done correctly.
Give your layouts the most by launching from the foot that opposes the hand you are shooting with. That means, if you shoot right-handed, use your left foot for taking off. This will keep you balanced and going towards the basket.
A consistent routine will help you to achieve great free throws. If you aren’t able to be consistent then you’ll be off when you shoot. In order to make your free throw perfect, you’ll need to practice the shot many times and get into a routine. If you are off your game, you will not make the shot.
Take a charge if you can. Taking charges gives you an opportunity to get defensive stops, get the ball and lay the groundwork for fouls. This can throw off the opposing team and mess up their rhythm.
Use your weak hand for brushing your hair, doing up your belt and opening bottles so you can build up its strength. Using both hands when playing is an important skill if you can develop it when you’re not playing. You will soon see a difference on the court if you are consistent with these simple exercises.
